After an outage, engineering teams may focus first on lighting and reception, but guests quickly report unusable showers, poor toilet drainage, no hot water or low pressure. Water and drainage may be back-of-house systems, yet they directly affect the stay.

Water, circulation, drainage and fire pumps all have starting demand and control logic. Without zoning and priorities, simultaneous starts can impose excessive transient demand on the generator.

Why This Design: Prevent Simultaneous Pump Starts Without Compromising Safety

Water and hot-water systems should recover according to pressure, temperature and demand periods. Fire pumps and safety loads take priority, while domestic water and hot water can be sequenced according to occupancy and tank capacity.

The design must review pump starting, VFD compatibility, grounding, breakers and low-voltage distribution. In hotels with basements or high rainy-season exposure, sewage pumps and below-grade drainage cannot simply be treated as deferrable loads.
