Site Issue: Utility Alarms Appear Before the Production Line Can Restart
After a factory outage, the main problem is often not the production equipment itself but lost cooling water, an idle wastewater plant, unavailable fire pumps, stopped boiler auxiliaries or insufficient process-water pressure. Unless utilities recover first, an energized line may still be unsafe to start.
Pump loads also have starting-demand and interlock requirements; they cannot be treated as ordinary auxiliary loads.
Configuration Review: Identify the Utilities That Protect Safety and Process Conditions
Set priorities among fire pumps, cooling-water pumps, process-water pumps, wastewater treatment, boiler auxiliaries, exhaust and environmental systems. Confirm pump starting methods, operating hours and distribution circuits.
- Pump list, ratings, starting methods and control logic.
- Relationships among fire safety, environmental compliance, process protection and production recovery.
- Low-voltage switchboards, MCCs, breakers, grounding and circuit identification.
- Safety interlocks, alarm history and post-outage operating procedures.
Why This Design: Utilities Determine Whether the Line Can Recover Safely
Fire and safety pumps require first priority. Cooling water, process water and environmental loads that directly support critical processes should return in stages according to process risk. Domestic water, noncritical ventilation and office loads can be delayed.
The design must account for pump starting demand, breaker selection, grounding, control power and interlock logic. Delayed starting, soft starters or VFDs can reduce generator impact where needed.
